self discipline

Dear Della,

While I should probably be writing to you about our Christmas experiences, I cannot seem to muster up the energy and thought I would probably be more likely to remember your exuberance of Christmas than the little vignettes that pepper our days. Plus, I have a video of Christmas morning!

So, back to the subject I wanted to talk about. You got up from bed the other night. Something that you have been doing more of lately, unfortunately. This time you came out with a little sheepish smile on your face. You walked up to the TV and said, "no TV". Nope, no TV. We sat on the couch and cuddled for awhile. You also said "no cookies, no candy". Yea, nope to those too.

The interesting thing about your comments is that saying no to you about these particular items doesn't happen very often and never at night. You do not normally have a problem with excessive TV (perhaps that is MY problem) or too much candy. We are usually corralling you around cleaning up, not drawing on the walls, putting clothes on, etc. So, we find it intriguing that you knew TV and treats were off limits after bedtime. You have more self discipline than I do! But, trust me, the irony of saying a 3 year old is able to practice self control is not lost of me.

I love you,

Mama
